Postage Stamp - 1/200 Boeing B-29 Superfortress “Enola Gay”
The B-29 Superfortress was a four-engine heavy bomber, one of the largest aircraft used during World War II. It was advanced for its time, with remote-controlled machine gun turrets and pressurized cabins that allowed high altitude flight. On 6 August 1945, the B-29 “Enola Gay” became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, destroying the city of Hiroshima, Japan with a weapon known as “Little Boy”. The plane was named after the mother of pilot Paul W Tibbets, Jr. “Enola Gay” also took part in the second atomic strike over Nagasaki, three days later, functioning that time as a weather reconnaissance aircraft.
