Model Rail Sales Assistant
Hobbyco is looking for an enthusiastic, customer-focused Model Rail Sales Assistant to join our specialist Rail Department at Queen Victoria Building. This role suits someone with a genuine interest in railways or model railways who enjoys sharing their knowledge and helping customers at every stage of the hobby.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service and knowledgeable product advice.
- Help customers select suitable model railway products, accessories and control systems.
- Maintain an organised, well-presented and welcoming Rail Department.
- Receive, unpack, replenish and merchandise stock.
- Support other departments when required.
- Work collaboratively with the wider retail team to create a positive shopping experience.
About You
Passion for Model Rail
- A genuine interest in railways or model railways is essential.
- Enthusiastic about the hobby and enjoys engaging with fellow enthusiasts, new modellers and families.
Product Knowledge
A basic understanding of model railways is preferred, including:
- Model railway scales
- DC and DCC control systems
- Two-rail and three-rail operation
- Electrofrog and Insulfrog points
Previous experience with model train servicing or repairs is desirable but not essential — additional product training will be provided.
Customer Service
- Friendly, approachable and confident when communicating with customers.
- Able to explain products clearly and patiently to people with different levels of experience.
- Committed to providing a consistently high standard of service.
Teamwork
- Reliable, helpful and comfortable working as part of a team.
- Willing to support other store departments when required.
- Able to communicate effectively in a collaborative retail environment.
Physical Requirements
You must be comfortable performing the regular physical duties of a retail role, including handling stock, using ladders and accessing display layouts when required.

This role suits someone who enjoys hobbies, toys, models or collectables and is excited to help customers discover the right products. Retail experience is welcome but not essential — what matters most is a positive attitude, reliability and a genuine willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome customers and provide friendly, helpful service.
- Assist customers in choosing suitable hobby products, gifts and collectables.
- Learn about Hobbyco's product ranges and confidently share that knowledge.
- Process purchases and assist with general retail duties.
- Receive, unpack, replenish and merchandise stock.
- Maintain an organised, well-presented and welcoming store.
- Work collaboratively with the wider retail team.
- Support other departments and store activities when required.
About You
Passion for Hobbies
- You have a genuine interest in hobbies, toys, models or collectables.

You do not need to be an expert in every category. Product training and support will be provided.
