Why this kit matters

The IJN Kaga was one of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s most famous aircraft carriers during the Second World War. Originally planned as a battleship, the vessel was converted into an aircraft carrier following naval treaty restrictions in the 1920s. Kaga became part of the powerful Japanese carrier strike force that played a major role in the early Pacific War.

Kaga participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and later took part in several major naval operations. The carrier was eventually lost during the Battle of Midway in 1942, one of the turning points of the Pacific conflict. Its historical importance and distinctive appearance have made it a favourite subject among naval historians and ship model builders.
