Why this kit matters
The 9A52-2 Smerch-M is a modernised version of the Soviet BM-30 Smerch heavy multiple rocket launcher, mounted on a MAZ-543M chassis. It entered service around 1989 as part of the 9K58 complex and has been used in several conflicts. Its ability to deliver 300 mm rockets over large areas gives it strategic value in modern artillery doctrine.
For modellers this kit represents a recent “new tool” release (2023), with updated moulds, parts engineered for better fit (one-piece cabins, main frame), and nicely detailed components. The inclusion of over 100 parts plus rubber tyres, waterslide decals, and clear parts gives both visual appeal and build challenge, without becoming overwhelming. It strikes a balance between complexity and display value.
How to use it
Use sprue cutters, a hobby knife or side cutters to remove parts cleanly. Clean up mould lines with files or sandpaper. Assemble chassis, cab, and rocket launcher sections per the illustrated guide. Use plastic cement for plastic parts, and appropriate adhesive for rubber tyres if required. Paint the model with colours suitable for modern Russian military vehicles. Mask windows and clear parts. After painting, apply decals from the sheet provided. Display on a shelf or in a military vehicle collection.
This is a plastic model kit. Assembly, paint, and glue are required. It is not a toy.
