“Operation Breaking Dawn” was a preemptive strike on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) that took place between August 5th and 7th, 2022. Israeli forces killed a leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) using a precision air strike on the apartment building he was in. The arrest of another PIJ leader angered the militant group who responded with rockets and mortars. The IDF struck 170 targets, using fighter jets, drones, combat helicopters, and artillery. Over the three days, 1,175 rockets and mortars were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israel.
