Why this aircraft matters

NC17334 debuted with American Airlines on 2 March 1937 as one of the earliest DC-3s—the 24th out of a total of 84 it would operate. American used it in promotional materials during the early 1940s. It even carried First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt on several special flights.

It flew regular passenger service until 1947. After decades of varied use—including crop spraying—it was rediscovered and restored by the Flagship Detroit Foundation in 2004.

NC17334 now holds the distinction of being the oldest flying DC-3 in the world. It tours airshows across the U.S., reminding people of aviation’s roots.

This model captures that legacy. You hold more than a plane—you hold a flying time capsule. It represents innovation, endurance, and the dawn of profitable air travel.

How to use it

Display it on your desk, shelf, or in a diorama. Use the included stand for a dynamic in-flight angle, or showcase it on the ground with landing gear down. No tools, glue, or paints are needed; it’s ready to impress right out of the box.

This is a diecast model. It is fragile and not recommended for children.
