On November 24, 1955, PH-NIV took off on its maiden flight. Conceived as a successor to the proven but aging Douglas DC-3, the Fokker 27 quickly became a success for the Dutch manufacturer. A total of around 600 copies of the "Friendship" were manufactured, which were used practically in all corners of the world for civilian and military purposes.
