The first skeleton discovered of it was lying on a nest of eggs. It was thus long assumed that it wished to steal the eggs. That's why its scientific name means egg thief. Now we know that it was a brooding parent. The Oviraptor resembled a flightless bird and hunted for shellfish, mussels, and snails.
