The Ministry of Defence Police are responsible for policing sites owned and used by the MOD. The modern 'MOD PLOD', as they are known colloquially, was formed in April 2004 by the amalgamation of the MOD Police Agency and the MOD Guard Service, the idea being to create a cohesive single security organisation for the whole of the Defence estate. All of their officers are firearms trained and they employ around 2,400 staff across the UK, all of whom are tested for physical fitness annually. The force use a variety of vehicles across their specialist divisions including 4x4s, but they still have a need for rapid and commodious marked patrol vehicles such as the Cavalier modelled here.
