Hands-On: GUNDAM MK-II Titans – GUNDAM BASE Exclusive

THE GUNDAM BASE POP-UP WORLD TOUR event in Sydney is the perfect chance to grab limited and exclusive kits available only at the event. I chose to dive into an exclusive HG GUNDAM MK-II GUNDAM BASE kit.

The GUNDAM BASE POP-UP WORLD TOUR features a wide range of GUNPLA kits, with something for everyone — from metallic finishes and clear kits to must-have GUNDAM BASE exclusive releases.

About The GUNDAM MK-II

The GUNDAM MK-II is from the MOBILE SUIT ZETA GUNDAM franchise. Developed by the Titans as the successor to the legendary RX-78-2 GUNDAM, it was the first GUNDAM to use the moveable frame concept — dramatically improving mobility, stability, and performance.

What Makes This Kit Special

As a GUNDAM BASE exclusive, this kit offers some great extras I haven’t experienced with other HG kits:

  • Colour correction guide for accuracy

  • Silver injection parts with glitter effect

  • Waterslide decals included as standard

These all elevate the final finish when fully assembled.

Build Experience and First Impressions

My first impression on opening the kit was that the build would be satisfying. The nubs are well placed for clean removal, and the assembly guide is straightforward — setting the stage for an enjoyable experience.

This HG kit stands out thanks to its metallic silver parts, which provide striking contrast on the weapons and waist section. The waterslide decals give a professional finish with minimal effort.

This kit is approachable for any level of builder. Taking my time, it took me about 3–4 hours to complete — a perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment.

Colour Separation & Customisation

The Titans colour scheme is iconic, and this model captures it beautifully. The dark blue and black base, accented with silver and red highlights, really pops.

The dark base also makes it easy to customise — whether you want to add weathering, tweak the colours, or deepen the tones for a more dramatic look. This kit is a great canvas for creativity.

Weapons & Poseability

The weapons elevate this kit further. This was my first build featuring a bazooka — and the fact it mounts neatly to the back of the waist is a detail I loved.

You’ll want to pick up an action base if you plan on dynamic posing, as this kit doesn’t include one.

Why This Event Matters

THE GUNDAM BASE POP-UP WORLD TOUR is the first event of its kind in Australia — and the only way to get these exclusives locally. Throughout the event, new kits will rotate in, catering to every type of builder and collector.

Final Thoughts

I hope many of you will join the festivities, celebrate this amazing hobby, and pick up the GUNPLA kits you’ve been eyeing. Most of all, enjoy connecting with other builders and sharing your passion for GUNDAM!
