Why this kit matters
The Mikoyan MiG-29 entered service in the 1980s as a Soviet fourth generation fighter designed for front line air superiority missions. It combined strong manoeuvrability, twin engines and short take-off capability, making it one of the most recognisable combat aircraft of its class. The aircraft has served in many air forces and remains active in several countries.
The phrase “Ghost of Kyiv” became widely known during the opening stage of the 2022 defence of Ukrainian airspace. While the story became a symbol of resistance rather than a confirmed single pilot account, the MiG-29 itself became strongly linked with Ukrainian air defence efforts. A 1/72 scale plastic model kit of this aircraft reflects both modern aviation history and the continuing service life of the MiG-29.
