The USS Missouri (BB-63) was a US Navy battleship, built during World War II and serving until the Gulf War. It was the penultimate Iowa-class ship.
Missouri has become one of the last battleships built in the United States. The surrender of Japan, which ended World War II, was signed on board on September 2, 1945 Missouri was commissioned in 1940 and completed in June 1944. During the Pacific War, she participated in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, where she shelled the Japanese islands. It was also deployed to the fighting during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. In 1955, it was decommissioned and transferred to the reserves of the US Navy. During 1984, it was modernized and subsequently participated as a support ship in the Gulf War.
Missouri received a total of 11 stars (honors) for service in World War II, Korea and the Gulf War. It was decommissioned on March 31, 1992, but remained in the U.S. Navy Register until January 1995, when it was removed from the list. In 1998, with the help of the USS Missouri Memorial Association, it became a museum in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
