N A4 Valanced Silver Fox LNER
Still one of the most iconic and recognisable locomotives ever built and the class that still holds the world speed record for steam traction. The A4 was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and were bought into service in 1935 for the high-speed runs between London and Edinburgh. Thirty-five of these locomotives were constructed and were named after Birds. The most famous one being "Mallard". The A4's were in service into the 1960's and several (including Mallard) survived in preservation.
