As armored cars go, the Panhard 178 was actually incredibly sophisticated. Thus, when France collapsed under the weight of the Wehrmacht assault, the remaining Panhards were put into service by Germany as the P 204 (f). When Operation Barbarossa rolled around, the P 204 (f) went straight into the thick of the fight. Its superior off-road performance and relatively long range made it perfect for the Russian steppe. Panhard armored cars were used across the French possessions up until the late sixties.
