Italeri - 1/48 Sea Hurricane
The Sea Hurricane, derived from the famous Hawker fighter, was built to provide air cover for merchant convoys. The first versions were modified to be embarked and launched, with a catapult, by specially modified armed merchant ships. Not having recovery cranes, the only alternatives for the pilots were the landing, if the autonomy allowed it, or the forced ditching. Despite these operational limitations the Sea Hurricane achieved their first victories. From the Mk Ib version the Sea Hurricane were modified with the addition of a stop hook and began to operate from aircraft carriers, such as the HMS Furious or the HMS Eagle, and from merchant ships equipped with a flight bridge and recovery and admission of aircraft. From February 1942 the Mk Ic version was introduced.
