Action Figures

Action figures offer more interaction than many fixed-pose collectables. Depending on the range, a figure may include articulated joints, interchangeable hands, facial expressions, weapons, effect parts or a display stand. Other products focus more on sculpting and shelf presence than extensive movement.

Characters From Popular Franchises

Hobbyco’s current action figures feature characters and designs from franchises such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, Gundam, Godzilla and Marvel. The available mix changes as products sell out and new releases arrive.

Different Ways to Collect

You can build a collection around one character, series, manufacturer or product line. Some collectors prefer consistent scale for group displays, while others choose individual centrepieces without trying to match every figure.

Articulation

Articulation determines how freely a figure can be posed, but more joints do not automatically make a product better. Some action figures prioritise a clean sculpt, while others are engineered for dynamic posing. Check product images and descriptions instead of assuming a fixed number of articulation points.

Size and Scale

Action figures can vary considerably in height and proportion. Even products from the same brand may not share a scale. Review the listed dimensions if you want figures to fit a shelf, display case or group scene.

Materials

PVC and ABS are common, while selected premium action figures may contain diecast metal or other materials. Material combinations differ between products, so use the specifications on the individual listing rather than applying one material claim to the entire collection.

Accessories and Display Parts

Interchangeable hands, faces, weapons, stands and effect pieces can expand posing options. Check the box-contents list carefully, as promotional images may show poses or accessories that are not included with every release.

Product Line

Range names provide useful clues. S.H.Figuarts generally focuses on articulation, Figuarts Mini offers compact stylised designs, FiguartsZERO usually favours fixed poses, and Robot Spirits centres on mecha. Individual products can still differ in size, construction and features.

Anime Action Figures

Anime action figures form a large part of Hobbyco’s current range. Characters from Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen and other series appear across articulated and fixed-pose product lines.

Superhero and Movie Action Figures

Selected action figures feature characters from film and comic franchises. Current examples include Marvel characters such as Wolverine and Venom, although the available selection changes over time.

Mecha and Robot Figures

Robot Spirits, Metal Robot Spirits, Gundam Universe, Chogokin and Metal Build products appeal to collectors who enjoy mechanical design. These action figures may include weapons, effect parts, transformation features or diecast components, depending on the release.

Monster Action Figures

S.H.MonsterArts focuses on creatures such as Godzilla and King Ghidorah. These products often sit at the premium end because of their size, sculpting, articulation and complex forms.

Avoid Direct Sunlight and High Heat

Long-term exposure to sunlight can fade paint and discolour some plastics. High temperatures can also soften or warp parts. Display action figures away from sunny windows and avoid leaving them in hot vehicles or unventilated spaces.

Support Balanced Poses

Use the supplied stand when the product includes one. For action poses, position the centre of gravity above the feet or base. Avoid forcing a joint beyond its natural movement, and warm stiff joints only if the manufacturer provides an approved method.

Dust Carefully

Use a clean, soft brush or dry microfibre cloth. Hold delicate accessories and narrow parts while cleaning. Avoid household chemicals unless the manufacturer specifically recommends them.

Store Small Parts Together

Keep spare hands, faces, weapons and connectors in a labelled container. This reduces the chance of losing accessories and makes it easier to return a figure to its original configuration.

Keep the Packaging if It Matters to You

Original packaging can protect a figure during a move and keep accessories organised. It may also matter to some secondhand buyers, but storing every box is optional. Choose what works for your space and collecting goals.

Hobbyco’s live collection currently ranges from A$15 to A$674.99. A practical breakdown is:

• A$15–A$40: Selected sale figures, Figuarts Mini and compact releases
• A$40–A$100: Entry and standard articulated action figures
• A$100–A$200: Detailed figures, larger characters and sets with more accessories
• A$200–A$350: Premium action figures, monsters, mecha and complex sets
• Above A$350: Selected large or premium releases such as S.H.MonsterArts and Metal Build

Price is influenced by size, engineering, materials, accessories, licensing and production complexity. A higher price does not automatically mean a figure is the right choice for every collector. Compare the character, dimensions and included parts first.

Hobbyco has served Australian hobby enthusiasts since 1935 and stocks action figures alongside anime collectables, model kits, diecast and other hobby ranges.

Delivery times and charges depend on the order and destination. Review the current shipping and return information before purchasing rather than relying on a fixed delivery estimate.

Q: What age group are action figures designed for?

The recommended age varies by product. Some action figures are designed as toys, while detailed collectables may be intended for teenagers or adults and can include small, sharp or fragile parts. Check the age grading and safety warnings on the individual product page or packaging before giving a figure to a child.

Q: How do I display action figures without damage?

Keep action figures away from direct sunlight, high heat and excess humidity. Use a stable shelf and any supplied stand, support the figure’s weight evenly and avoid forcing joints. Dust gently with a soft brush or dry microfibre cloth.

Q: Are articulated figures worth the higher price?

They can be if you value adjustable poses and interactive displays. However, articulation is only one factor in the price. Character licensing, size, accessories, materials and production complexity also matter, and some articulated action figures cost less than premium fixed-pose collectables.

Q: Can action figures increase in value as collectibles?

Some discontinued, limited or highly sought-after action figures may sell for more on the secondary market, while others lose value. Demand, condition, completeness and packaging all influence resale prices. An increase is never guaranteed, so buy figures primarily because you enjoy them.

Q: What’s the difference between collectible and toy-grade action figures?

Collector-focused action figures often emphasise detailed sculpting, paintwork, articulation or display accessories and may require careful handling. Toy-focused figures usually prioritise durability and straightforward play. The distinction is not absolute, so always use the product’s age guidance, safety information and specifications.

Q: Should I open action figures or keep them in original packaging?

That depends on how you want to enjoy the collection. Opening a figure lets you pose it and use its accessories. Keeping it sealed protects the factory presentation and may appeal to some resale buyers, but it does not guarantee future value. If you open it, keeping the box can still help with storage and transport.
