Why this aircraft matters
JA8955 joined ANA’s fleet in May 1992 as part of its special short-haul “400D” series, designed for high-capacity domestic routes. It held hundreds of seats without winglets to suit quick takeoffs and landings.
This model shows ANA’s traditional title design before later modernised branding. It reflects an era when ANA used clear, classic lettering along its fuselage.
JA8955 logged many domestic cycles before a fire during maintenance in August 2008 ended its service. The aircraft was then written off, marking its retirement.
The 747-400D remains rare in aviation history. ANA and JAL jointly operated just 19 of them. They marked the peak of four-engine jets used on domestic routes.
You hold more than a model. You hold a piece of ANA’s domestic legacy. It captures a unique moment when high-capacity jets met airline tradition.
How to use it
Position it prominently on your desk, shelf, or within a diorama. Use the provided stand to display it as though it is in flight, or feature it realistically on the ground with its landing gear down. No tools, glue, or paints are needed. It arrives factory-finished and ready for immediate display.
This is a diecast model. It is fragile and not recommended for children.
