Why this aircraft matters

This jet, N498SA, came to Southern Air in 2014 as one of five Boeing 737-400s converted to freighters. Southern Air flew them for DHL across the Americas. They boosted capacity across hubs like Cincinnati, Caracas, Bogotá and other key cities.

The base airline, Southern Air, was a US cargo carrier merging with Atlas Air in 2021. It had provided charter and ACMI services for DHL since 2011.

This aircraft type—the 737-400SF—offers efficient short-haul cargo capacity after conversion from passenger service. It kept the 737-400 family flying in freight as long as larger types phased out.

You hold a model that captures a link between fleet renewal and logistics needs. It represents an agile chapter in air freight history.

How to use it

Place it prominently on your desk, shelf, or in an aviation display. Use the included stand to showcase it in flight or position it with landing gear down.

No tools, glue, or paints are required. Everything is factory-finished and ready to display straight out of the box.

This is a diecast model. It is fragile and not recommended for children.
