The Red Tails legacy, now in fifth-generation form.
The Alabama Air National Guard's 100th Fighter Squadron carries the lineage of the famed Tuskegee Airmen of the Second World War, and was reactivated as part of the 187th Fighter Wing at Dannelly Field, Montgomery, in 2007. The "Red Tails" flew the F-16 for over three decades before receiving their first F-35A Lightning IIs on 6 December 2023, becoming the third Air National Guard unit to transition to the type.
Herpa models an F-35A of the 100th Fighter Squadron, carrying the unit's traditional red tail flash, in 1:200 scale.
