Why this aircraft matters
RL249 has a remarkable history. The original aircraft was a Mosquito NF.36 that served with No. 23 Squadron at RAF Coltishall. On 14 February 1949, both engines failed shortly after take-off during a night training flight. Pilot Officer Richard Colbourne crash-landed the aircraft and returned to the burning wreck to rescue his navigator, Flight Sergeant William Kirby.
Colbourne suffered serious injuries and later received the George Medal for his actions. The remains of RL249 were eventually buried after being used as an instructional airframe. They were rediscovered in 2006 and acquired by The People's Mosquito project in 2010.
The restoration project is rebuilding RL249 as a Mosquito FB.VI to return a British-built Mosquito to UK skies. Corgi's model represents this restoration project in 1:32 scale.
Livery and Finish
The model carries the RL249 and YP-E identity associated with The People's Mosquito, along with registration G-FBVI. Its painted finish and detailed markings give you a clear representation of the aircraft being rebuilt for a return to flight.
How to use it
Place it on your desk, shelf, display cabinet, or aviation diorama. It arrives as a finished diecast model, so you do not need paint, glue, or modelling tools. Use the supplied cradle and display base to present the Mosquito as part of your collection.
This is a diecast model. It is fragile and not recommended for kids.
