Why this aircraft matters
Hawker Hurricane P3966 is closely linked with Pilot Officer John "Paddy" Hemingway and the intense air fighting of 1940. Hemingway joined the RAF in 1938 and flew with No. 85 Squadron. During the Battle of France, the squadron recorded 90 enemy aircraft destroyed in eleven days, with Hemingway credited with victories against a Heinkel He 111 and a Dornier Do 17.
During the Battle of Britain, Hemingway flew P3966 against German bombers over Kent on 26 August 1940. His Hurricane was hit by cannon fire from a Messerschmitt Bf 109, forcing him to abandon the aircraft by parachute. P3966 later crashed at Fobbing Marshes in Essex and was recovered decades later.
Livery and Finish
The model recreates P3966 in its period RAF markings associated with No. 85 Squadron. The painted finish and printed markings give you a display piece focused on the aircraft flown by one of the best-known pilots of the Battle of Britain.
How to use it
Place the Hurricane on its display base or cradle on your desk, shelf or aviation display. It arrives as a finished diecast model, so you do not need paint, glue or modelling tools
