Why this kit matters
The Gallipoli campaign began in April 1915 when Allied forces landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in an attempt to secure control of the Dardanelles Strait. Australian and New Zealand Army Corps troops became closely linked with the campaign through the difficult fighting around steep terrain, trench lines and exposed coastal positions.
The campaign lasted several months and became one of the defining military events in Australian and New Zealand history. While the operation did not achieve its strategic aim, the actions of the soldiers involved shaped national memory and annual remembrance traditions. A 1/35 scale Gallipoli diorama set allows builders to recreate part of this important First World War campaign with period detail.
