Why this aircraft matters

This Boeing 747-8F (Reg A7-BGA) was one of two of Qatar Airways Cargo’s final freighters of its kind. It entered service in 2017 to answer soaring cargo demand and to anchor the airline’s freighter operations.

Over its years in service alongside A7-BGB, the 747-8F fleet logged more than 9,000 flights, over 66,000 block hours, and carried nearly 800,000 tonnes of cargo—including PPE and critical supplies during the global pandemic.

In a shift toward greener, twin-engine freighters, the fleet began its retirement in 2024. Qatar’s 747-8Fs, including this aircraft, have since exited service—paving the way for more efficient Boeing 777-8Fs.

This model captures the last chapter of a freight icon. It stands for global logistics, resilience, and an important transition in air cargo history.
