Why this kit matters
The Handley Page HP.52 Hampden was a British twin-engine medium bomber that entered RAF service before the Second World War. Its narrow fuselage gave the aircraft a distinctive appearance and earned it the nickname "Flying Suitcase". Hampdens were heavily involved in RAF operations during the early years of the war.
The TB.Mk.I was developed for maritime strike duties and could carry a single Mk.XII aerial torpedo beneath the fuselage. The conversion included changes to the lower gun position, bomb bay area and torpedo mounting. Hampden torpedo bombers served with RAF Coastal Command squadrons over the North Sea and Arctic waters, making the aircraft an important part of Britain's early-war anti-shipping operations.
