Why this kit matters

The Marston Mat, also known as pierced steel planking (PSP), was a crucial engineering solution during World War II. Developed in the United States, it allowed rapid construction of temporary runways and landing strips in remote or rugged locations. Its distinctive perforated design provided strength and drainage, making it ideal for supporting heavy aircraft and vehicles in challenging environments.

Used extensively by Allied forces, Marston Matting played a key role in the success of air operations across Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. Its portability and ease of assembly meant airfields could be established quickly, supporting both combat and supply missions. Today, Marston Mat is an iconic symbol of wartime ingenuity and adaptability, making it a popular subject for scale model enthusiasts and historians alike.
