Why this kit matters
The F/A-18A Hornet is a twin-engine, supersonic multirole combat aircraft developed in the United States by Northrop and McDonnell Douglas. The Royal Australian Air Force selected the Hornet as a replacement for its Dassault Mirage III fleet, receiving 55 single-seat F/A-18As from 1984 onwards. The aircraft became a major part of Australia's fighter capability for decades.
The Worimi Hornet carries special Australian significance. It was unveiled at the 2015 Australian International Airshow to recognise the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The aircraft honours the Worimi people, traditional owners of the land around RAAF Base Williamtown, and Warrant Officer Len Waters, the first known Indigenous Australian pilot to serve with the RAAF. Kinetic's 1/48 kit recreates this distinctive aircraft with dedicated markings and detailed parts.
How to use it
Remove the parts from the sprues with modelling side cutters and clean the attachment points with a hobby knife or sanding tools. Follow the instructions to assemble the cockpit, fuselage, wings, landing gear and external stores. Plastic cement is required for assembly, while paint is needed for the aircraft, cockpit and smaller details. Apply the supplied Cartograf decals after painting and finishing, then display the completed Hornet in a collection cabinet or on a suitable aircraft stand. The kit includes 229 grey plastic parts, 21 clear parts and 22 photo-etched parts, making it a detailed project for experienced modellers.
This is a plastic model kit. Assembly, paint, and glue are required. It is not a toy.
