Why this kit matters
The Polikarpov I-16 was one of the most advanced fighter aircraft of the 1930s when it first entered service. It featured retractable landing gear, enclosed cockpit options and monoplane construction at a time when many air forces still relied on biplanes. The Type 24 became one of the final and most widely used production versions.
The I-16 served in several conflicts, including the Spanish Civil War, border clashes in Asia and the early years of the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Although later outclassed by newer fighters, it remained important in Soviet air defence during the opening stage of the war. A 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the I-16 Type 24 represents a major step in fighter aircraft development.
