Why this model matters
The DP1 "Deltic" was introduced in 1955 as a prototype diesel locomotive built by English Electric. It tested a powerful twin Napier Deltic engine design, developed for high-speed mainline service.
This locomotive proved the potential of diesel traction in Britain. It led to the production Class 55 Deltics, which became some of the fastest and most recognisable diesel locomotives on the East Coast Main Line.
The preserved DP1 now forms part of the National Railway Museum collection. It stands as a milestone in the shift from steam to diesel power across the British railway network.
How to use it
Place the locomotive on OO gauge track and connect to your controller. Pair it with passenger coaches to recreate express services or display it as a standalone museum piece.
This is a ready-to-run model. Assembly, paint, and glue are not required. It is not a toy.
