Why this locomotive matters
The BR “County” Class locomotives were introduced in the early 1950s as part of British Railways’ effort to modernise steam power using proven Great Western Railway design principles. Built at Swindon Works, they combined Castle Class boiler performance with a lighter 4-6-0 chassis.
Although relatively short-lived due to rapid dieselisation, the class represented one of the final developments of GWR-influenced steam engineering under British Railways.
This model captures a distinctive and often overlooked chapter in British steam history, bridging classic GWR design with the final years of mainline steam.
How to use it
Place on OO gauge track and operate on mixed-traffic or express passenger services. Ideal for mid-20th century layouts with mainline running.
No assembly, paint, or glue is required.
This is a detailed OO scale model. It is not a toy and is not recommended for children.
