Why this kit matters

The Antonov An-22 first flew in 1965 and was developed to meet the Soviet Union’s need for a strategic airlifter capable of carrying very heavy and oversized cargo. Powered by four contra-rotating turboprop engines, it combined jet-like performance with the efficiency of propeller-driven flight.

The aircraft set several world records for payload and range and became a symbol of Soviet aerospace engineering during the Cold War. Although produced in limited numbers, the An-22 played a key role in military logistics and humanitarian missions, making it a significant subject for aviation history modellers.
