Why this kit matters

The “dekotora” (デコトラ) phenomenon in Japan celebrates over-the-top custom trucks adorned with lights, colourful paintwork and personalised features — a unique subculture blending automotive craftsmanship with expressive art. The IPPATSUYA kit revives one such legendary decorated truck, letting modellers recreate a piece of automotive folklore in precise 1/32 scale.

With its large detailed chassis, realistic dump-box mechanism and special decal sheet, this kit captures both the functional and flamboyant aspects of classic dekotora rigs. As a result, it stands out not only as a model but as a tribute to a distinct facet of Japanese vehicle culture, offering an engaging build experience and a striking display piece.

How to use it

Begin by carefully trimming parts from the sprues and cleaning any mould lines. Apply plastic model glue to assemble the chassis, cab, dump box, and other components. Once assembled, prime and paint the cab, chassis and cargo bed in your chosen scheme (metallic red for chassis, metallic black for cab as per original), then apply the included decals or custom paintwork for the typical decorated-truck look. Let the model fully dry and display proudly on a shelf or in a display cabinet.

This is a plastic model kit. Assembly is required. Paint and glue required (not included).
