Why this kit matters

The J-5, known internationally as the MiG-17, was a mainstay of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force during the 1950s and 1960s. Produced under licence in China, the J-5 played a key role in modernising the nation’s air defence capabilities and was widely used for both training and frontline duties.

This aircraft is significant for its swept-wing design and afterburning engine, which marked a leap forward in jet technology for the era. The J-5’s service history reflects the rapid development of military aviation in Asia and its influence on regional air power. Building this model offers a hands-on connection to a pivotal chapter in aviation history.
