Often deployed in tactical reconnaissance missions during the Pacific War, the KI-46 III was powered by two 1,300hp Ha-112-II engines. Its smooth, stretched canopy and rounded engine cowlings bear testament to its designers’ focus on aerodynamics, borne out by the fact that it was the fastest among its peers with a maximum airspeed of 630km/h. It started to see live action from 1944, flying missions in South-East Asia and over the Pacific.
Designed to a specification issued by the Japanese Army, 4,800 of the Type 95 – also known as the Kurogane – were manufactured and used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force.
The flowing form of the aircraft is captured in style. Six parts are used to recreate the canopy. The kit comes with pilot and recon operative figures, plus 4 marking options. Length: 229mm, width: 306mm.
