Postage Stamp - 1/300 USAF VC-121E “Columbine III”

The VC-121 was the military variant of the iconic L-1049 Super Constellation commercial airliner first produced by Lockheed in 1939. The VC-121 lengthened the L-1049 fuselage by about 18 ft / 5.5 m, and was given more powerful engines and greater fuel capacity.

The VC-121E served as the official aircraft of President Dwight Eisenhower from 1954 to 1961, and was also used by other top officials for high-priority flights. It was named “Columbine” after the state flower of Colorado. The US Air Force continued to use the VC-121E as a VIP transport till 1966, when it was given to the National Museum of the USAF for permanent display.

This diecast metal model airplane comes in 1/300 scale with a plastic stand and is approximately 4 1/2 inches (11.4cm) long with a 4 3/4 inch (12cm) wingspan.
